University of Liverpool Accommodation Thread

Really? I was considering going private as I didn't think I'd get a decent place in halls but everyone seems to have good things to say about Dale so I think I'm going to take it, obviously I'd have preferred ensuite but sharing with one person isn't so bad.

How's the commute to campus, waiting for buses etc? And what about getting back at night? Thanks in advance haha

Last friday my offer became unconditional and i still don't have an offer Does anybody know how long it'll take them to give me an offer and do I have chance for Prospect point (which is full according to the website) if I have applied for accommodation in April :?

You havn't a hope for Prospect Point now. It went on the website ages go it had been booked out.

i have looked on liverpool uni website, and I dont think they have any decent self catered accommodation with en-suite and i dont know where to go now :/

does anyone know any decent private accommodation that first years go to?

Grand Central seems to be a popular choice for UoL students and it looks great, so check that out if you're looking for en-suite.

On a side note, is anybody else having difficulties finding flatmates? I am on two prospect point facebook groups and still havn't found anybody in the same flat as me whilst some people have found almost everybody in their flat. Beginning to wonder if most people will start looking for flatmates etc after results day?

Personally, I've heard some shocking stories about Grand Central and Unite in general, in terms of things breaking/never getting fixed/getting ripped off/not getting deposits back. Do you know if any of these are true? Or know anyone who's lived in a Unite building? I certainly hope not though as I was still considering Grand Central myself.

And yeah I've noticed a similar sort of thing, I guess most people won't be allocated room numbers until after results day.

right i have narrowed down my choices to the railyard or myrtle court, they are the same price and both look pretty decent. so which has the best on reputation or is more suitable for a first year student and the university of liverpool?

Does anyone know if for university-owned accommodation you get told who your flatmates (in situations where you are sharing kitchen/bathroom with a few people) are? Or do we just find out when we arrive? There is a facebook group for Melville Grove, but I haven't seen anyone say they'll be in the same number as me. Obviously it's not terribly important to know, but it might be nice to talk to people beforehand!

My Dad used to work for Unite and I would never stay there or recommend it to others. The shocking stories you have heard are most likely to be true.

The bits you see look nice but behind the smoke and mirrors it is disgusting. Grand Central is the worst. They fumigate it every summer to get rid of cockroaches but it never gets rid of them all.

The charges where ridiculous especially in an already expensive accommodation. If you have a car the pass for the car park is expensive. The charge like £20-£30 if you lose your key when most other I have seen charge £10 - £15. The security is not great and they do anything possible to get out of giving you your deposit back.

I can't remember exact prices but he has said he would recommend Opal or Liberty over Unite. Opal was the one he preferred though.

Close to town and whatnot for nights out, but there's no way I'd compromise quality of living for convenience.

To be honest the convenience factor shouldn't be a primary issue in Lpool, as buses and taxis are cheap and many (a private hire car from town to my old house on Smithdown after a night in town was about £5 in total, so maybe a couple of quid more to get up the halls)
