How do you use a CAST diagram? Is it easier to use the graphs?

Hi! I'm studying A Level Maths with Edexcel, and have absolutely no idea how to use the CAST method, can anyone help me out?
I've heard a lot of people find the graphs method easier, but I have no idea how to do this either..
Any help would be much appreciated!

What method have you been taught

It is certainly possible to solve trig equations without using either of these methods and you may have just been taught to use the period/symmetry

My teacher briefly went over both but it was a very long time ago and not taught well, so I'm lost!
Could you explain from the very basics when they're used, what for, etc for me?
