The most interesting jobs in finance?

I appreciate that the words "interesting", "jobs" and "finance" rarely crop up in the same sentence, but having studied Accounting and Finance at university (now in my final year) and coming to quite a firm conclusion that I don't want to spend the next three years at my wit's end studying for ACA, I was wondering if people had any insight into other financial careers that are generally regarded as quite interesting?

I respect the fact that some people might find accounting interesting, no offence to you lot or anything ha.

The only aspects of my degree I didn't find soul-destroyingly dull were my corporate finance modules - options, futures, swaps etc.

Would consider investment banking but heard some pretty bad stories about never being able to leave the office and most people burning out by the age of 30 so not too keen on this idea either.

Any interesting/rewarding careers in finance I could look into other than this?
"finance" is huge and covers a lot of things, from desk cashier to trader. Could you be more specific about what you enjoy or where you see yourself in a few years. Tbh most people in finance are driven by monetary gain and are willing to do almost any job they find moderately interesting.

Well part of my point is that I'd be happy to sacrifice some pay if it meant doing a job that was more interesting.

I like corporate finance stuff like stocks, bonds etc. but not enticed by investment banking so wondered what else there is in this area maybe?

Corporate finance isn't just investment banking, accountants do this as well and in fact finance teams in most companies will do "corporate finance" to some extent. It's about raising capital, whether this is by buying/selling stocks, bonds, debt, IPOs, M&A etc.

Have you considered investment consulting or private banking? You get to work in finance with the things you are interested in, the pay is good, the hours are reasonable and there are plenty of opportunities to further your career
