thanks for the tips!

Enron's a good example of a weak/toxic culture  as is barclays/other banks

Ahh, could Enron be an example of a strong culture though, because I thought Enron had a strong culture because it was like so tough and aggressive that it lead to employees to fake the financial statements, because there culture was that strong and aggressive they felt threatened if they didnt? so the strong and toxic culture lead to their failure, whereas most strong cultures are good? ahhhhh :confused:

What culture did steve jobs bring to apple?

I know it was secretcy but was it role culture, task culture?

and what was his leadership style?

presumably he bought what Stephen McGuire calls an Entrepreneurial Culture, whereby employees are encouraged to look for new ways of bringing revenue to the company + being innovative.

I'm not sure of his leadership style, i watched a video about it a while back and he said they had meetings often, so maybe a democratic culture but i suggest looking on tutor2u to be sure

strong cultures will generally lead to success, and weak ones lead to failure.
strong is exactly how you defined it before, employee commitment, team work, everyone has the same values etc. they dont mean strong in the sense of being aggressive/powerful, they mean strong in the sense of everyone working together for the benefit of all the stakeholders, not just themselves.
enron would be weak as there were clear sub-cultures in the firm, everyone wasnt working towards the same goals they were just doing things for their own benefit

I hope that makes things clearer!

are these model answers from students that actually sat the exam last year, that ur teachers decided to get the scripts back?

Is 15-21 lines of writing enough for a "Chunky paragraph"

really depends on your handwriting size tbh, and also quality is more than quantity.

generally speaking, if you've written 3 or 4 sides in the exam for each essay then that should be enough.

and yeah theyre from last june, but obviously they're for takeover and mergers, but i asked to have them because i get confused with structure and how to get good analysis and evaluation, so i find them quite useful

haha its fine!! just think of strong cultures as those who have had positive media coverage, and the opposite for weak.

have you got any for section b as well?

yeah i have two for section b one got 38/40 one got 31/40 but i haven't properly looked at them yet, cos i only got them yesterday

Just to add in with this whole structure thing, my teacher gave me some model answers from last years papers,

one that wrote three points that were all really specific with like numerical data etc got 38/40,
and one that wrote Four points with less specific numerical data scored 37/40,

so I'd aim for four points, but ensure that all your paragraphs are specific as possible, in case you only have enough time to write three points, because it's clear that you can still access a top grade by doing this.

In my mock, I wrote six points/companies and consequently lacked specific details and only got a B so don't do that haha!

As in 2 points for and 2 against (4 points)?

Sounds like a reasonable amount, just as long as you pack analysis and evaluation into it you'll do great

Yes, Enron's culture was really strong, but also toxic, definately. That's why the company collapsed. Even though it was doing illegal things (accounting fraud), everyone in the company knew what was expected of them. So it can be strong and toxic at the same time.
Guys, to get good application, could you compare and contrast 2 different companies in the same point. For example,
Googles innovative culture lead to them being successful and Kodak's lack of innovation lead to thier downfall.

Guys, don't assume that strong culture means that the company will be successful in the long-term and have positive PR. Strong culture means where employees know what is expected of them and what to do. It can lead to short-term success only, for example Barclays's casino banking and Enron's accounting fraud.

Weak cultures are where the culture doesn't really provide a competitive advantage for the business, it's not its intangible asset. A great example, in my opinion, is Nokia's bureaucracy and lack of innovation in the rapidly-growing market; therefore, they lost their market share to Apple and Samsung, with Stephen Elop now trying to put Nokia back in the game.

Definately, that shows the examiner that you have a broad view of the subject if you present it from different angles
Researching Royal Mail, Barclays, Google & NHS. Anybody got any good info on any of them, regarding the bullet points from the stim material? Thanks, really need some halps
(just asked this in another buss4 thread but this one is more popular lawlz)

You could say that Nokia and Kodak did not have the right culture, and that they were long term market leaders but failed to spot the opportunities, so maybe a entrepreneurial culture would have been better? Sony's market leadership reduced its incentive to innovate. Toyota had a culture of complacency which contributed to its quality problems in 2011/12. So maybe it is the case of the wrong culture instead of a weak culture.

The problem with finding examples of weak culture is, that companies with weak culture have tended to fail and go out of business quickly so there are few examples...
