Biology AQA B2 GCSE

hi, on the specification for B2 it says that extinction is caused "through the cyclic nature of speciation"
I know what speciation is, but I don't understand how it links to extinction...
Thanks for the help

Speciation is the creation of a whole different species that may be worse or better adapted and therefore the ones that are worse adapted will be killed while a whole new species evolved from them lives on.
