Liverpool possibly (it is a Russell group one) and ranked among top tens (I live close to it; but loathe Liverpool too much to live in it); Leicester less so, but it is a fairly well-set on Geology (quite high on rankings- for not a Russell group one). I got my offer from Leicester (with a scholarship) within span of days. So I persume it is not as competitive.

Ah I'm from London. Liverpool looks amazing! Would like to go to another city, just not as busy as London. Yeah, I've heard Liverpool is really good for geology :frown: hope I get an offer from one of the two!

I've been to Liverpool five times if more- the docks do look pretty; but as it stretches out it becomes derelict and deprived- much like Detroit; but I am not trying to put you off.
I, on other hand, want to go to London- because I had felled in Love with the city, its parks and culture.

Hey everyone! Got unconditional offers from aberdeen, glasgow and edinburgh for geology/earth sciences! Still unsure of where to go though. Swaying towards the geology and petroleum geology course at aberdeen! Has anyone else applied to aberdeen, glasgow or edinburgh?

I was informed on todays parents day that I am working on A*A*A level and am likley to end up with such results.
Is there a possibility of applying to Oxbridge, or changing the Univeristy, if I get grades few levels above my predicted?

You definitely could apply to Oxbridge if you get A*A*A although obviously those grades are no confirmation that you'll get in. Make sure you like the courses first. Both Oxford and Cambridge have odd courses. At Cambridge, you don't get to specialise in Earth Sciences until Year 3 - you have to study Earth Sciences in combination with other subjects (including compulsory Maths) for the first two years. At Oxford, you have no options until third year and you have to take topics from all aspects of Earth Sciences.
I had my Imperial interview yesterday, it was surprisingly relaxed, wasn't too bad at all. I'm hoping I impressed the interviewer but we shall see. Was anyone there yesterday?

I have mine in 6 days, glad to hear yours went well  Any questions I need to prepare for in particular?

Honestly we all got interviewed by different people and we all got asked different things. Brush up on a bit of physics, chem and maths if you did those subjects for A-level. They're not there to trip you up, they just want to see what you're like.

Most people i talked to seemed to get asked the generic interview questions. The actual interview seems to vary either very personal statement based or a general chat with a few technical questions (I.e perhaps a simple maths one or something simple related to the interviewers specialism). But yeah it's quite chill and goes really quickly.

I do believe for Geophysics Imperial have lowered the grades to AAA.

My predicted grades are actually AAB lol (thought they were higher at the time). My Imperial offer is A*AA though, waiting for Southampton's response after interview then would have heard from all 5.

Nice one! Where else have you applied?
My predicted grades are AAA, I've applied to Liverpool, Leeds, UCL, Imperial & Southampton. Only submitted yesterday but got an interview from Southampton, any tips??

I applied to Leicester, Liverpool and UCL as well as Imperial and Southampton. In terms of the interview, my Southampton one was actually harder than my Imperial one, which was quite surprising. Most important thing is to know your personal statement inside out as they could ask you anything regarding what you've written on it. In terms of technical questions they could ask, they're on the spot kind of questions which you can't really prepare for- just make sure you can say something though when they ask.

Thanks! Wow, thats surprising to hear! May I ask what your 5 minute presentation for Southampton was about? And what grades your other offers were?

Same here. They also asked me about something that was in my reference, not even my PS.
Hey, has anyone applied for geophysics at Edinburgh? I've got an offer but I'm not really sure what earth science is like there...

I talked about earth tides (gravitational pulls of Sun and Moon on Earth)- think it's quite interesting. My offers are ABB for Leicester, AAB for Liverpool, AAB for UCL and A*AA for Imperial. Good luck with your offers/ interviews btw!
1 week since I've sent my application off and I haven't heard anything, only acknowledgements D:

Don't worry they will be taking longer now because there are more applicants at this time. You will have offers rolling in soon  where did you apply?
