Loughborough, Liverpool, Reading, Birmingham, Newcastle, Exeter, York, Sheffield, etc. Have a look at this year's applicants thread to see where others are applying:

Have a good look through the modules and optional modules on offer at the unis you are thinking about. Are there opportunities for field trips and placements, etc? It might also be worth searching for earth/environmental science courses.

Southampton looks a great choice. Exeter is another option which springs to mind - well worth looking through their list of courses as some differ from those more widely available.

Might Scottish universities be an option?

2.

Cardiff (Ability to specialise offering physical, environmental, marine geography, etc courses also) https://www.cardiff.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/course/physical-geography-bsc

4.

Exeter, Penryn Campus (Beautiful scenery, still Exeter university but placed in Cornwall, with more physical geography landscapes to indulge within) https://www.exeter.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/courses/geography/corngeogbabsc/

5.

Aberystwyth (Amazing university with good student satisfaction and ranked fairly high) https://courses.aber.ac.uk/undergraduate/physical-geography/

Hi @varsh_xx
I'm currently in my 3rd year studying physical geography at Lancaster. Personally, i've found the course excellent. Lancaster is perfectly placed between the Lake district and Yorkshire dales which has allowed me to go on some great fieldtrips in these areas especially focused on Geology. Also, in 2nd year there is an option to go to the Isle of Mull in Scotland for a geology fieldtrip as well as lot of other fieldtrips around the UK and overseas for different modules. The highlight of my degree so far was a week long fieldtrip to Slapton in Devon studying hydrology.
The lecturers and teaching staff have been really supportive and have always been open to offering support around a module or even with career options. There's also a really wider range of modules you can take under a physical geography degree, i've studied modules focused on hydrology, coasts, geology, atmospheric science, renewable energy, GIS to name a few. The typical modules that are covered under a physical geography degree at Lancaster are found here. Physical Geography BSc Hons (F840) - Lancaster University
If you have any more questions about Lancaster, feel free to ask and i'd be more than happy to help!

Hi there,

I am currently a third year student studying environmental geography at York St John University. Throughout the course we have studied various different topics including climate change as well as the glaciation periods and how that has effected the landscape around us. Although York St John is a city campus it is a very small university and York compared to other cities I have found really friendly and not too big!

As many others have said lots of universities do courses in geography and geology so I would recommend having a google of different universities and look at the modules they cover in their geography/geology degrees and see what ones interest you the most. Another thing to take into consideration is how the course is assessed. For example my course is 100% course work so I have no exams but when I was looking at universities other courses were split between exams and coursework.

I hope that this helps 😊

Hi varsh_xx

Happy to hear you're considering Leicester!

Our Physical Geography and Geology course at Leicester offers selected complementary modules which are structured to provide you with an understanding of Earth System functioning across a range of space-time scales.
After completing your first year, you have an option of switching your course to any other course listed on here. You also have an optional year in industry or year abroad after your second year, which offers you a unique university
experience and increases your employability chances after graduating.

With regards to future employability, 97% of our Geography students and 95% of our Geology students are employed (or studying for a Masters degree) six months after graduating. (DLHE)

Our field trips run during each year of study. Field trips will take you to some of the world's most remarkable environments, such as the Amazon Rain Forest and Death Valley in California. The Geology society of London Accreditation Panel have shared that they believe "The courses were considered excellent [...] the panel was particularly impressed by the amount of fieldwork undertaken."

To read more, I would recommend looking at Course Structure and Fieldwork, it gives a breakdown of each year and the content you will be studying closely.

Let me know if you have any other questions about Leicester as I am current student and I will be more than happy to answer them.

Kind regards,

Hello!
I am a second year Earth and Environmental Science student at Lancaster! We have an excellent study abroad programme, I have friends within the department who are currently all over the world including Australia and Canada! Even as a student on the standard BSc degree, in June I am off to Switzerland to study the glaciers as a whole module! Lancaster is such an exciting place to study as Jasmine mentioned above we are right next to the Lake District so at the start of my second year I did a week residential module there looking at the effects of acid mine drainage in the area. Hope this helps answer your questions and feel free to ask if you have anymore!

Thanks, Lucy (Lancaster University Student Ambassador)

Hi @varsh_xx,
The study abroad options for physical geography at Lancaster can include studying in USA, Canada, New Zealand and Australia. Similar to what Lucy has said, i have a few friends on the study abroad program in the USA at the moment. There's also lots of opportunities to study abroad as part of fieldtrips within the course, like to Switzerland to study alpine processes, Italy for mount Etna and Croatia to study water management to name a few.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
