Guys do we need to learn the reactions that occur when aldehydes react with Fehling's & Benedict's / tollens reagents .. Those

They are qualitative tests the important thing is
1)why these tests are used: to determine the type of carbonyl compund (aldehyde/ketone)
2)what colour changes take place
3)why those colour changes take place (for this remember that these involve oxidation reactions i.e. reagent is reduced and the carbonyl compound is oxidized ..... see below )

The important thing is that these are oxidation reactions used to find out what type of carbonyl compound the substance is and the fact that
1)aldehydes are readily oxidized
2)ketones arent

Hence if the test is positive substance is an aldehyde otherwise the substance is a ketone

Its an added benefit if you know the conditions reagents etc....
I am sitting this tomorrow. Do you think it will be as hard as the June 2016 paper?
