Two hatricks!!! Samuel badree and Andrew Tye.
Pollard looks like he is finally back in form. However, Rohit Sharma just isn't

We still lost... Only RCB can manage to get a team down to 7-4 and then lose the match.

While other teams look for ways to win, they look for aways to lose. I'm so annoyed :cry2:

Ffs man. Always the way with them 😭😭😭

It okay tho! RCB till then end

RCB is the team that always underachieves, ngl. I don't even support them but I come across many people who support them because they have all the big names but then they just don't win.

I agree, they definitely underachieve. Something just doesn't click with the team.. individually brilliant names but as a team we fall weak.
Though at least energy levels seemed to be up today with VK back as captain
Big win for Mumbai Indians, who posted 145 for 6 to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore, who themselves managed 142 for 5.
Kohli made 62, but McClenaghan strangled RCB by claiming 2-20 as Mumbai won by four wickets. Pollard made 70 and Krunal an unbeaten 37, allowing them to ace the chase after Badree claimed 4-9. McCleneghan bowled Mandeep for a golden duck and had Kohli caught by Buttler, and the Pandyas accounted for Gayle and ABDV, who made 22 and 19, and were snaffled by Patel and Sharma. Bumrah ran out Jadhav to complete the wickets, before Badree sent back Patel (caught by Gayle) for 3, Sharma for a two-ball duck, Rana via Aravind, and McCleneghan for a golden duck, with the help of a Mandeep catch. Buttler made 2 before he was caught off Binny by Gayle, and Pollard was caught by AVDV off Chahal for 70.In truth, it was a very dry pitch - hence the low-scoring contest - which included a whopping 10-over spell WITHOUT a boundary at one stage, and a Powerplay hat-trick for Badree. Indians, chasing 143, were 33 for 5 in eight overs. But Pollard scored a brilliantly calculated 70 off 47 balls and added 93 for the sixth wicket with Krunal Pandya to consign RCB to their third defeat in four games. RCB were made to rue a ponderous start, with Kohli and Gayle content to push the rest around for ones and twos, and RCB were 66 for 1 at the 10-over mark. Gayle fell in the 10th over for 22 off 27 balls, which is unlike him, as this proves: http://www.espncricinfo.com/blogs/content/story/1092004.html

Spoiler

Mumbai were tottering at 7 for 4 in the third over chasing 143 on a dry surface when Pollard came in, but he was collected and calm and posted match-winning half-century that helped Mumbai record their third successive win. Pollard scores at 11.16 in the last five overs when chasing in the IPL. Only Chris Gayle, David Miller and AB de Villiers score at a higher rate (100+ balls). Friday was only the second time Pollard, who first featured in the IPL in 2010, has batted over 40 deliveries in an IPL innings, proving Mumbai were right to have faith in him.

Kolkata Knight Riders v Sunrisers Hyderabad tomorrow. Last season, Knight Riders beat Sunrisers Hyderabad in two of their three encounters - by eight wickets and 22 runs respectively. The only match they lost was the Eliminator, where Sunrisers won by 22 runs on their way to a maiden IPL title. This year, KKR have beat Gujarat Lions and KXIP, but lost to Mumbai Indians, while Sunrisers beat Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions but lost to Mumbai. Henriques missed Sunrisers' last match due to an illness, after scoring successive fifties in the first two. For KKR, Trent Boult's early form could be a source of concern. He has been unlucky, with fielders having missed catches off his bowling in the last two matches. But, worryingly, he has also conceded 123 runs for one wicket so far with an economy rate of 10.39, the third poorest among those who have bowled more than 10 overs this season, after Dinda (11.9) and McClenaghan (10.75). Lynn is still recovering so de Grandhomme will likely retain his place, though he could face competition from Shakib Al Hasan and Rovman Powell.

KKR will be wary of Kumar, who is the most successful bowler in the last five overs against Knight Riders in the IPL. He has struck 13 times in this period and averages 8.92 runs per dismissal. Likewise, Sunrisers have the second-best economy rate in the slog overs - 7.65 - and the second-highest wicket tally (10). Knight Riders, despite taking eight wickets, have conceded runs at 10.44 runs per over. Warner and Gambhir - who hold the record for the most half-centuries (fifty-plus scores excluded) in IPL history - will go toe-to-toe, with Narine looking to shine again (his economy rate of 7.06 is second-best among spinners who have bowled at least 40 overs in the IPL since 2015. Mustafizur will get more time to hone his white-ball skills, but the only two batsmen he has dismissed in the IPL so far are Jason Holder and Andre Russell. Against Gambhir, Manish Pandey and Yusuf Pathan, combined, Mustafizur has bowled 43 balls and given away 62 runs.

There isn't much difference between the overall run-rates of Sunrisers and Knight Riders in the last five overs - 9.14 and 9.29 respectively. However, in head-to-head encounters, Sunrisers have only scored at a rate of 7.96, their lowest against any team. Knight Riders, meanwhile, have managed to score at a rate of 9.24 in the last five overs against Sunrisers.
Kings XI Punjab v Delhi Daredevils tomorrow, too. Kings XI Punjab have won ten out of the eighteen matches played between the two teams so far. Both teams defeated the visitors in the one-off games at home last term, and KXIP lost to KKR but beat RCB and Pune thus far this term, while Delhi lost to RCB but beat Pune.

Daredevils batsman Shreyas Iyer has joined the squad and is available for selection, and considering Tare's underwhelming performance at the top of the order in the two games, Iyer is likely to feature in the XI. Unfortunately for Maxwell, he has a penchant for struggling against spinners. He scores his best average, 83.00, off R Ashwin, and he boasts a strike rate of over 200 against legspinners Karn Sharma, Mishra and Piyush Chawla. Ironically, though, he has fallen to Mishra and Chawla three times, the most times to any bowler in IPL. Billings' average against spinners in the IPL, meanwhile, is 42.50. That's more than three times his average against fast bowlers. He has been out four times to pace and only twice to spin. In the two matches he has played so far this season, Pant has been more prolific against left-arm bowlers, scoring 39 runs off the 17 balls he has faced against them, than against right-armers, against whom he has only scored 49 off 41. Saha has struggled to score against Mishra, having averaged 13 in five innings till date. Miller, on the contrary, has an average of 35.00 against the legspinner in as many innings. When the two teams met at the venue last season, Mishra had claimed a four-for that included the scalps of Manan Vohra, Shaun Marsh, Miller and Maxwell.

Teams batting first typically win at Feroz Shah Kotla than elsewhere. The average first-innings score last year was 160 and the hosts won three out of the five games. Pace has been the preferred weapon of choice for bowlers at the Kotla and has yielded 63 wickets at an average of 21.47. By contrast, spin has accounted for 27 wickets at an average of 30.81.

Elsewhere, Badree's has praised Pollard's "maturity". It is not often that a team wins a T20 after losing four wickets for less than 10 runs, after all. Pollard was really good - especially against Pawan Negi and Yuzvendra Chahal in the slog overs. Pollard had a forgettable start to the tournament. He bowled the balls to allow Smith to clinch victory in the opener and then managed only 17 and 11 with the bat in Mumbai's next two games. By the time Pollard holed out in the 18th over, he had played his second-longest IPL innings, and Mumbai needed only 17 off 15 balls.

In the other match today, Gujarat - 173-3 - beat Pune, who racked up 171-8. Tye claimed a five-for, dismissing Tripathi for 33, with a Finch catch, before removing Stokes (clean bowled for 25), Tiwary (caught by Ishan for 31), Sharma (caught by B-Mac for 25) and Thakur (bowled for a golden duck). Smith fell just shy of a half-century, caught by Finch off Smith, and Jadeja trapped Dhoni in front for 5, before Tahir bowled Karthik, Smith and B-Mac made 49 and 47 before Chahar snaffled the former off Thakur and had the latter caught by Dhoni, meaning Raina and Finch got them over the line with 35 and 33 unbeaten respectively.

Gujarat Lions had picked up only one wicket in two matches this season. But Tye claimed a hat-trick after, for the second time this week, Lions
put on their worst performance in the Poweplay. They leaked 73 runs in the season opener against Kolkata Knight Riders last Friday and now they gave up 64 to Rising Pune Supergiant. In truth, Gujarat are still far too reliant on their specialist openers, who made 762 runs in 2016 - that's 30% of the team's total runs. Pune's bowlers were too profligate against them today, though, and Gujarat romped to victory. Tye has bowled the last over of a T20 innings 29 times in 52 innings with an economy rate of 11.20. Against Rising Pune Supergiant, he conceded four runs and picked up three wickets. Tye's 5 for 17 were the best figures by an IPL debutant, going past Shoaib Akhtar's 4 for 11 in 2008.
Tye and Badree had excellent debuts today,

Hoping SRH win tomorrow as I cant stand Gautam Grumpy's side
Since Sunrisers have two left-hand batsmen at the top, it seems teams are targeting their lack of variety. The other day, we saw Rohit gave the new ball to Harbhajan and he went on a stump-to-stump line with four dots to strangle the visitors, and Sunrisers' slow approach could be the lack of depth in the batting line-up. In Henriques' absence, their middle order was weak: Deepak Hooda, Yuvraj Singh, Ben Cutting, Naman Ojha, and Vijay Shankar.

Most people believe Rohit should open, but Parthiv Patel is quite similar to Dhawan (his Powerplay strike rate is 112) and he needs a partner who attacks from the outset - and Buttler fits that role. Twice in three games, Rohit has been dismissed by a legspinner. In Pune, it was Imran Tahir. Then Rashid Khan deceived him with a googly. As a result of the dew, Sunrisers did not have enough runs to feel comfortable and then the dew just made their bowlers' life even more difficult.

Harbhajan and Bumrah ensured that Mumbai's batsmen weren't dew-reliant for the win vs Sunrisers a couple of days ago as they produced miserly spells that added pressure on their opponents. Harbhajan, who opened the attack, got the ball to skid into opener Shikhar Dhawan, who scored only seven runs at a strike rate of 46.66, his lowest in the first six overs in the competition. Hyderabad's openers set the platform for a late onslaught by posting 81 runs in the first 10 overs. Harbhajan ended with figures of 2 for 23, at an economy rate of 5.75, while Bumrah claimed figures of 3 for 24 at a rate of 6. Hyderabad lost 7 for 72, including four in the last three overs.

Mumbai have batted Rana at No. 3 and 4 in their first three matches and he has excelled in all of them. He is thriving, benefitting from the input of Tendulkar, Jayawardene and Rohit after a troubling domestic campaign, where he did not score a fifty in the final 11 innings. He played five T20 matches for Delhi in the Inter-State T20 Tournament with a high score of 22 and when he produced scores of 5, 5 and 0 in the one-day matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he was dropped from the side. Batting first in their opening match, Rana started with 34 off 28 balls against Rising Pune Supergiant. While chasing 179 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rana batted ahead of Rohit, at No. 3, and set up Mumbai's win with 50 off 29 balls. On Wednesday night, he propelled Mumbai's chase against Sunrisers Hyderabad by top-scoring with 45 off 36 balls. With 129 runs through three games, he is Mumbai's leading scorer so far.
Two great matches today, with Kolkata Knight Riders posting 172 for 6 to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad, who made 155 for 6, meaning KKR won by 17 runs. Kumar posted 3-20, removing Narine for 6, Pandey for 46 (caught by Warner), and de Grandhomme for a duck. Rashid caught Uthappa for 60+ off Cutting, and clean bowled Gambhir for 15, and Ohja snaffled Yadav off Nehra before Woakes claimed 2-49 - catching and bowling Henriques for 13, having Yuvraj caught by the sub for 26. Boult sent back Cutting, via a de Grandhomme catch, for 15; Woakes caught Warner off Kuldeep for 26; de Grandhomme snaffled Dhawan off Pathan for 23; Uthappa stumped Hooda for 13 off Narine.

Bhuvneshwar and Kuldeep bowled brilliantly, but it wasn’t enough, and they were made to rue poor umpiring: Uthappa nicked his first ball to the keeper, but Anil Dandekar did not spot it and he went on to strike 68 off 39 balls. Warner and Dhawan sauntered to 45 for 0 in the Powerplay, but Kuldeep's dismissal of Warner derailed the chase. They lost 6 for 83, and eventually their second successive match. Sunrisers started really well - especially considering on Thursday, Narine and Gambhir ran up 76 in in 34 balls, taking KKR to their best Powerplay score. But Narine was undone by a yorker, Gambhir was bowled by Rashid, and KKR were kept to their first sub-50 score in the Powerplay this season. Bhuvneshwar is great at the death - last year, he picked up 13 wickets in 162 balls in the death overs - the joint highest with Shane Watson. Uthappa struck at 174.35, but the rest of the Knight Riders batsmen had an average strike rate of 114.81. He took Rashid for 21 runs in 12 balls, the most any batsman has scored off him in this IPL and also struck 37 off 14 balls through the midwicket and long-on area. Out of his 68 runs, 52 came on the leg side.

Why is Gambhir opening instead of Uthappa? Uthappa averages 37.34 and with a strike-rate of 137.18 as an opener for KKR whereas Gambhir's corresponding figures are 31.64 and 125.30. Considering Gambhir is a better player against spin as well, it is interesting that he has not decided to bat down the order. And does something need to be done about the poor decision-making? Buttler's LBW decision off Tahir, Pollard's reprieve off the same bowler in the same match, Buttler's LBW off Rajpoot vs KKR, Sharma's off Narine in the same game, Carlos Brathwaite given not out vs Chahal during Delhi vs RCB, Warner taking strike after hitting a boundary off the last ball of the previous over, Jadhav's LBW off Aaron, Uthappa not given out caught off Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

In the other match, Delhi Daredevils posted 188 for 6 and beat KXIP by 51 runs, after they managed 137 for 9. Samson made 19 and Billings made 55, before Morgan snaffled the former off Cariappa and the latter holed out to Miller off Patel. Aaron sent back Nair, caught by Saha, for a three-ball duck. And Morgan caught Iyer and Pant off Sharma and Aaron, before the Sharmas combined to send back Morris, leaving Anderson unbeaten on 39. In reply, Morris claimed 3-23 (Amla caught by Billings for 19, Patel and Cariappa clean bowled for 44 and 1 respectively), Cummins claimed 2-23 (Morgan caught by Nair for 22 and Sharma clean bowled for 13) and Nadeem 2-13 (trapping Vohra LBW for 3 and Saha caught by Khan for 7), while Billings caught Maxwell off Mishra, and Miller was trapped in front by Anderson.

No side had chased down 189 to win an IPL game at the Feroz Shah Kotla and, having conceded 28 more than the average first-innings score at this venue, KXIP needed their batsmen to perform, but they sunk to 64 for 5 in the 11th over. Billings was excellent, and he capitalise on Aaron’s poor form. He had an IPL economy rate of 8.79 across 39 matches prior to this game and despite two average outings this season, he was picked again but conceded 45 off his four overs, with two wickets being scant consolation. Eventually Kings XI paid the price for conceding 68 off the last five overs.

Delhi were 120-4 after 15 overs and KXIP will have wanted them to score 160ish, not 189. The highest successful chase at this venue, across all IPL seasons, was 188. Daredevils scored 68 off the last five overs - their joint second-best tally in that phase in all IPL seasons. Their best, 82, came in their previous match, against Rising Pune. Of Anderson's 39 runs off 22 balls, 31 off 10 came against Axar Patel and Sandeep Sharma. Anderson's overall strike rate in the IPL is 138.15 - it climbs to 173.24 in the last five overs.

Mumbai Indians v Gujarat Lions tomorrow. Indians lost both their matches against Gujarat Lions last season but have beaten RCB, Sunrisers and KKR, and lost to Pune this campaign, while Gujarat have beat Pune but lost to Sunrisers and KKR. Malinga missed Mumbai's last match against RCB due to an illness. If fit, he is likely to slot back in place of Southee. For Lions, Dwayne Bravo remains unavailable as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Will McCleneghan be an unlikely match-winner? He claimed two wickets last time out after a disappointing start to the season, including Kohli's scalp. In the fixture last year, he took 4 for 21, but has conceded 149 runs in four matches, the most by a bowler so far.

Jadeja has taken 12 wickets against Mumbai in the IPL but his economy rate of 8.95 is his poorest against all teams. In 19 matches against Mumbai, he has conceded 394 runs in 44 overs. Kulkarni has dismissed Rohit Sharma in four out of seven innings and legspin has been an issue for Rohit in the IPL. Imran Tahir, Rashid Khan and Samuel Badree have caused three of his four dismissals this season and overall in the IPL, two of the three most successful spinners against Rohit have been legspinners - Amit Mishra and Shane Warne. With only one wicket at an average of 227 and an economy rate of 9.65, Lions spinners have been the poorest of the teams this season.

In the other match, RCB face Pune. The two teams have faced off only twice, in IPL 2016, with RCB winning both times. This year, RCB have lost to Mumbai, KXIP but defeated Delhi, while Pune have been beaten by Gujarat, Delhi and KXIP. The game has plenty of subplots: will Gayle play? Will Pune choose Adam Zampa's legspin over Ferguson's pace, after he went at 11 an over last time out? Gayle has scored 51 off 30 deliveries against Tahir and 44 off 16 balls against Zampa, in the CPL and BBL. The only Pune bowler to dismiss Kohli is Dinda, who was dropped in the last game. Against Tahir and Zampa, Kohli has scored 75 runs off 42 balls. Tymal Mills has never bowled to Ben Stokes in a T20 game. Stokes scores at a strike-rate of 166 in the last five overs while Mills has taken 31 wickets in the same period, averaging 13.25 with an economy rate of 7.36.
Come on Gujarat!!!! I am still waiting for a century from McCullum 😢
(edited 7 years ago)
Great days of cricket this weekend. The 93-run stand, between Pollard and Pandya, for the sixth wicket helped Mumbai register their third win, beating RCB by fours wickets with seven balls to spare. Bangalore were buoyed by the return of their talisman, Kohli, but they managed just 142 in their innings. Mumbai's top order though buckled early, with Buttler falling in the second over and then a Badree hattrick, reducing the visitors to 4 for 7 by the third over. When Panya and Pollard came together in the eighth over, following the departure of Rana, Mumbai was still 112 runs adrift from Bangalore's total. But they reduced the deficit to 52 from 30 balls as Pollard departed in the 18th over for a 47-ball 70, while Krunal remained unbeaten on 37 off 30 balls. They racked up 93 run in the 9.3 overs they spent together.

Elsewhere, Dwayne Smith and B-Mac's 94-run opening stand led Gujarat to a seven-wicket win against Pune - their first of the 2017 season. Pune, unfortunately, are at the bottom of the points table with just one win from four matches. They scored 171 after being put in to bat on a sluggish pitch. Tye, making his debut in the tournament, returned with figures of 5 for 17, including a hat-trick, and made life tough. Gujarat required over nine an over from the onset to ensure that Tye's heroics with the ball didn't go to waste. Tye came on to bowl the final over of the Powerplay, after Rising Pune Supergiant had raced to 60 for 1 in five overs. He took four runs and then returned in the 13th over to send back Stokes and then, charged with bowling the 18th and 20th overs, Tye gave away only 10 runs and took a hat-trick in the final over. Over 60% of Tye's deliveries were knuckle balls bowled at slower than 120 kph, and he got four of his five wickets off that delivery.

All eyes on both sides today.
