Hi,
Could we possibly get an unofficial markscheme created for this exam?

Can u please tell me what topics came up for pure maths and mechanics?

Mechanics there were some vectors on there I.e finding magnitudes.
I believe there was some use of suvat equations required and also do F = ma on linked systems so like a tractor pulling a trailer. Working out distances (s) too.
Pure.
- Co-ordinate geometry.
- Simultaneous Equations.
- Stationary points and dy/dx
- Trigonometry and identities
I can’t remember anymore.

Questions that I remember.
1. Number of solutions for tan4x
2. What does n equal
3. Find p q and then fully factorise and draw curve.
4. Trigonometry, identities, find all solutions.
5.
5. 6 marker on (2+3x)^4 - (2-3x)^4 < 32
6. Stationary points 6 marker
7. Curve equation
8. Perpendicular bisector of AB and normal to curve
9. Inverness question
10.
11. How fast
12. Which statement is true
13. Distance, max speed?
14.
15. Snapping tow bar and seconds taken to slow to 8kmh-1. (Tractor and trailer).
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it

Cheers.
Feeling confident?
Boundaries very low last year.

These are my answers:
1. 8 - the forth option - not sure about this one
2. n = 6
3. p = 2, q = -3. Factorization: (x-3)(x+1)(2x+1)
4. 2√3 + 3√2 it was to express in form m√n + n√m the equation was √6/√3 - √2
5.(a) rearrange sin^2(x)+cos^2(x)=1 to find cos(x) = 1/2 and cos(x) = 1/3
(b) The angles I got the range was 0<x<720: 60, 300, 71, 431, 650, 660, 420
6. I expanded and got 162y^4 + 432 y^2 >= 0 and said that y^4 and y^2 has to be positive numbers as they have even powers
7. Stationary point at (0,-8)
8. Equation of the line for the question where it crosses at (2,0): y = -12x^-2+3
9. Showed that the perpendicular bisector has gradient of -1/3 and the tangent to the curve has gradient 3 when x = 2 and therefore the normal -1/3
10. A = 12 B = 5 N = 17 then t = 64 and later I wasn't sure and just said that 2020 would be a leap year and for the last one of that question I said that she had considered the whole year again not sure
11. 2ms^-1 or the first option
12. m is directly proportional to T the bottom option
13. (a) d = 100
(b) v = 28.4 ms^-1
(c) x<0 x>40/3
14. (a) I got vector -10i + 24j
(b) The force was equal to 13 by finding magnitude of the vector
(c) t = 1.3s
15. m = 2580 kg
T = 8856 N
t = 43s

Yes I feel quite confident it wasn't hard paper hope paper 2 would be the same difficulty
I’m doing the AS exam as my mock as I do A level so if anyone can provide any more information about the questions I’d appreciate it. Tryna get a high predicted grade ahaha thanks
Did you actually get all these answers :frown: Bad for me as I didn't have enough time! You seem very confident so well done but I'm dreading stats

First thank you and yes I got these I'm not saying that they are 100% correct but I found the test easy.

They are mostly spot on. Only mistakes are:
1. 4 not 8.
5(b) - actually 6(b) - you seem to have given the angles for 2x (0<=2x<=720) rather than x (0<=x<=360)
10(a)(ii) B=6 not 5, (a)(iv) t=51 (you would probably get ECF marks) and (a)(v) is because sin works on 360 degrees/days but there are 365 days in a year
13(c) Explicitly discard x<0 as time cannot be negative
14(a) wanted distance not displacement, so 26m. 14(c)(ii) is 1.8s

You need it to be less than or equal to 15 too as the model is only valid for 0-15 seconds.

What does everyone think the grade boundary for an A would be? My guess is higher but how much?
Reply 13
My answers were similar except
Q10. B = 6 and t = 65.
I messed up Q15 because I rushed and got stupid answers such as 12,000kg for the mass and 200 odd seconds 😂.
Also didn’t finish question 6 as I had little time.
Other than that some minor mistakes could have cost me too.
I reckon that it will be no less than 50/80. The questions were easy, but there were many traps such as rounding too early in the trig question.

Yes, I realized most of the things you wrote here today. Except I wrote B = 6 in the test not 5 I don't know why I wrote 5 here .

Last year it was 80 total on both papers for an A which isn’t bad tbh

I reckon it’ll be around the 100 Mark this time round.

At the instant the speed of the tractor reaches 18 kmh-1 the tow bar breaks the total resistance force acting on the trailer remains constant
Starting from the instant the tow bar breaks calculate the time taken until the speed of trailer gets somethign reduced to 9
what did u get for dis one
