How to become a special educational needs teacher?
Hi. I am an A-level student and I've just finished my first year at college. I am studying English Language and Psychology A-levels and a Level 3 Certificate in Health & Social Care. I was sure I wanted to be a primary school teacher, but after spending last week volunteering at a special school in my town, I've decided that I might want to go into SEN teaching instead as I absolutely loved it and I enjoyed it more than my experiences in local primary schools.
I am stuck between primary school teaching and SEN teaching, but leaning more towards SEN. I'm not sure how I would go about becoming an SEN teacher though.
Most websites say you need to be a qualified teacher who has a few years experience in mainstream schools, before moving into SEN teaching. Is this true?
Also I'm stuck for what I should study at Uni. I was thinking either:
A Primary Education with QTS undergraduate course to get qualified (3 years), followed by a postgraduate Masters in Special Educational Needs and Inclusion (1 year)
OR a Special Educational Needs and Disability undergraduate course (3 years), followed by a postgraduate certificate in Education to get qualified (1 year)
I hope this makes sense...thank you in advance for any advice or suggestions.

Your best bet would be to train for primary. You can train on a primary education with QTS degree with SEN specialism.
For example: https://www.plymouth.ac.uk/courses/undergraduate/bed-primary-special-educational-needs-with-qts this would be the best degree for you.

Look at the course pages on different websites as some unis will offer SEN specialisms internally. So you will apply for the specialism after you have finished the 1st year, for example.
