maybe but if im going to spend the money, i want to spend it somewhere i love! plus the accommodation seems more expensive in Oxbridge. Sorry, i would just prefer somewhere else :smile:

That's why I commented - also, how do you know you wouldn't love Oxbridge, if you're not even sure which uni you want to go to?

What grades are you likely to achieve and in what subjects. What part of thr uk do you want to study. Do you want a big or small city and a campus university or not.

I visited last year and just didn’t love it, plus my grades aren’t overly amazing so :frown:

So basically if its about living costs not the South.

So after that next most prestigous unis are:
Warwick, Durham, Nottingham, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham, York.

But it really depends what else you want, city/campus, size of city, national location, culture, SU, student population...

Lancaster is really good for Geography and its quite cheap. Exeter is also very good but will be quite costly. Both are really nice campus universities. Exeter is close to the city centre but Lancaster is further out. Durham is probably the best but requires very high grades. Its first year accommodation is quite expensive. You could also look at Bristol if you want a city experience.

At Lancaster we have a wide range of Geography related courses. We're top 10 for Geography and Environmental courses as well as being 1st for career prospects after 6 months for these courses. You can have a look at the courses we offer here.
You can attend one of the online open days or webinars/online events to find out more about Lancaster. You can also talk to current students using UniBuddy to get an idea of what it's like to study here. We also have quite a bit of student made content on the University YouTube channel which can help give you an idea of what it's like here!

When making the decision as to which university to attend, you need to consider the following:
Which type of geography are you interested in? Physical Geography? Human Geography? or do you like to study a mix?
What does the course offer you? What opportunities are available to you if you study a specific course?
What are the module options available to you?
How affordable is the University?
What is the city/area like?
Would you rather go to a campus-based university or a city-based university?

I would advise using UCAS to research into different geography courses. But also look at the universities websites and where possible visit them on an open day whether this is a virtual one or one on campus.

I am not sure about other universities and the courses which they offer, but I can provide a bit of an insight into the range of geography courses we offer at Hull. Most of our geography courses are accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (although please check when looking at each of the courses).
Our geography courses prioritise learning outside the classroom with core field trips with locations varying depending on the course but think locations such as Barcelona and Tenerife, alongside your typical university learning in the form of lectures, workshops etc.

Our BA Geography course introduces you to ways of understanding the dynamic and complex processes that make the world work. You'll develop a full toolkit of theoretical and practical skills – enabling you to look at places, individuals and communities with an expert eye.

Our BSc Geography focuses on the physical processes that govern the state of the natural environment. Practical work is at the heart of this degree. You'll gain extensive hands-on training in analytical techniques in the laboratory and in the field, as well as studying the theory of environmental variability.

Our Human Geography course introduces you to ways of understanding the dynamic and complex social, economic and political processes that make the world work.

Our Physical Geography Course focuses on the physical processes that govern the state of the natural environment.

Firstly, I’d like to ask you which type of Geography interests you the most? It could influence which degree course you would like to pursue. There are typically three types of geography courses (excluding joint honours) including Physical Geography, Human Geography and Geography.

To help you make an informed decision I would recommend using The Complete University Guide where you can search universities courses by rank and filter by region, grades and degree type.

I can speak for the University of Huddersfield. BSc(Hons) Physical Geography- how the physical environment influences contemporary society. BSc(Hons) Human Geography- how social structures and inequalities impact society and the role of geopolitics in our contemporary world. BSc(Hons) Geography where you have the chance to study a range of subjects and to specialise in the final year.

Secondly, I can see that affordability is a concern. According to The World University Ranking, the University of Huddersfield has “a lower cost of living compared to other parts of the UK, Huddersfield is a popular student destination.” The University is associated with the accommodation of all types, from relatively cheap accommodation located off-campus to studio flats located adjacent to the University campus. So depending on your budget, you can decide which accommodation suits you the most and your budget.

Possibly the second most significant cost is food. At Huddersfield you can shop at the German Discount Retailers such as Lidl and Aldi which is a great way to cut down the costs on your grocery shopping. By purchasing their store brand rather than branded products.

Thirdly, if you would like to find another source of income, the Universities Careers Centre and their “job shop” can help you find employment either internally at the University or externally in the local area.
