Ron Paul was against the operation in Afghanistan right from the start, why wouldn't he say things like these?

Ron Paul '12 :clap2:

are u a conspiracy theorist cos ron is and so am i
Nothing really new here and not any different from the kind of thing he has said a million times before. There are plenty of anti-war politicians out there. I guess Ron Paul gets the most attention because he is republican and also because he makes the most noise.

Is he liked on your side of the pond?
Well it's clear with all the military ranks and medals he holds that we must listen to him!!

I hate these bloody armchair generals! (and no being an airforce surgeon does not make you a military expert)

Personally i think they need with the resources they were allowed. Not their fault the the politicians would commit the amount of troops needed...

He is loved by a small minority (and when I say loved, I mean loved, his supporters would probably eat his poo) and generally well liked, but not by enough people to ever be a credible candidate. Sometimes I get the feeling that a lot of the people that like him haven't really thought through some of his positions.

Everyone here knows he is anti-war, but are people aware of his other positions? Do TSR members know he wants to repeal the 16th amendment of the constitution, abolish the IRS, effectively ending the income tax? He believes the income tax is unconstitutional. To make up for the having no income tax, he supports excise taxes, non-protectionist tariffs, and massive cuts in spending. I'm not saying that any of these ideas are wrong, but they are big changes that need to be studied and carefully implemented...a lot of people have called his policies "unrealistic" and I think that term is apt, even in a country like the US where there is no bigger insult you could call a politician than "socialist".

It cracks me up to see so many Europeans, many of who believe in socialism, jumping on the Ron Paul bandwagon. They just like him because he is anti-war...if they studied some of his other libertarian positions they would probably be appalled.

I think they probably just like him for his anti war views. I respect him, even if some of his views are totally at ends with mine. Seems like a guy with some integrity at the very least.

So why not admire someone who is anti-war who is a big government statist like you? Someone like Dennis Kucinich, for example, who probably agrees with you on almost everything.

I don't believe in socialism either and I wouldn't go as far as saying that I'm a Ron Paul fan, but between Obama and Palin, I'd back him.

He does seem to have some pretty radical ideas, which is perhaps what I like about him,

Anyway, what's the average Joe in the US saying about Obama's first year? Has the "Yes We Can" finally simmered down and/or died out?

No unfortunately he voted for it.

But non the less, Ron Paul is easily the best politician in the US, he should've won the election.

Nah, at least on TSR most of those who support him are actually libertarians as well.

On the question of the troop surge, it seems like a good idea. Given that the West is in Afghanistan, it should at least try and do as much as possible (given domestic political constraints) while it is there. From where we stand a semi-satisfactory completion of the mission appears far more desirable, and appropriate given the money put in thus far, than a withdrawal and the inevitable collapse/civil-war that will follow.
I'd be surprised if socialists support RP. He never really made his name as an anti-war politician - since he made his name on the internet the coverage was more comprehensive but less mainstream, or I thought so at least.

I am under the impression Ron Paul was for intervention in Afghanistan but was and is totally against the methods used, especially the large US ground force present in the country
You idolise both Ron Paul and Stalin? :lolwut:
