Should Youtube continue to show animals being tortured ?

There are loads of animal torture footage on youtube, my daughter was looking for videos of hamsters cos she likes them and she asked me why this man was killing one ?

Sort it out youtube or you will lose all your popstars posting their vids on it.

It's not like they choose to host them, they take them down when they are reported. According to Google 48 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, they can't go through everything. If you want to help, report the video.

Exactly as Sendaii says - you have a choice of what you want to watch on YouTube. Quite frankly, most people (who are not activists, etc) who upload their vids on animal torture don't care whoever watches them.

Report and flag videos that you believe shouldn't be on YouTube. You may want to sit with your daughter and use YouTube together - it'll be a much more fun and safer experience. Remember, on the new YouTube layout, if you scroll to the bottom of the page, there's a safety option which looks to be useful.

There are a lot of horrible videos on YouTube, yeah. If you post anything in reply to them they say "itz da food chain idiat", but putting a live mouse in a cage with some reptile isn't "the food chain", it's you killing a mouse.

I suppose they're removed when they're flagged, but that's not often I guess.
Should TSR continue allowing people who clearly don't know what they're talking about?

Actually, thats probably 98% of users...

If you think a video is innapropriate then report and flag it.

Youtube gets tens of thousands of hours of footage uploaded to it everyday, they physically cannot watch it all.

If they remove it, what are we supposed to fap to?

You're being naive: you can't shut down youtube because people put immoral stuff up and it takes time for the moderators to find them. That's kinda like saying we should shut off the internet because some people put porn on it.

However, given that you made an almost identical thread a few days ago I'm given to believe that you're trolling the forums with stupid posts.

The reason that I had a near identical thread up a few days ago is correct but as the mods removed it twice I had to put it up again so it's no trolling from me, I thought the only trolls on here were the ones who accused others of being a troll as they have nothing better to say.

So read the rest of my point. In any case, exactly the same thing happened last time: people explained why youtube can't filter out all the bad videos immediately, you disagreed without offering any counterpoint and then the thread died. Listen to people.
More like you should be a responsible parent!
In addition to my sarcasm above, I don't think the torture of animals should be censored as it does not solve the problem. The animal will still feel pain. The videos cause most, if not many, people to get sickened at puts a greater focus on animal rights. Even if the person tortured the animal just so he could film it, if it's banned the animal died for nothing, at least have their pain be put to some use like raising animal cruelty awareness.

You guess wrong.

If you think im going to trawl youtube looking for upsetting and cruel videos you have another thing coming. Any youtube video can be flagged, if you come across it then flag it.

Thats about it.

How old is your daughter? You're not exactly a responsible parent letting her browse the internet unsupervised - don't expect the world to raise your kids for you; that's your job as a parent.
Personally, I hate the damn things. I love horror films, can stand watching medical documentaries and have even visited many a forensic museum in my lifetime. But show me a 30 second clip of an animal being hurt? I break down like a baby.

All that being said, no, I don't think they should be taken down. Flagged and placed in, say, an 18 and over section, yes definitely. But to take it down doesn't do much to prevent these things from taking place. If anything, at least they draw attention to the cruelty and get people (hopefully) taking steps and action to prevent these issues and prosecuting those in the video. They can even help by highlighting the mental problems that the abusers probably have, ensuring that they get help before they possibly progress onto even worse things.

If you're going to want to take them down however, then you may as well start censoring all of the internet, which is just downright impossible. I'm not saying that freedom of speech means they should be allowed to get away with these things or that it's inevitable and you may as well leave be, but if your problem with these videos is just that it offends your delicate sensibilities or those of popstars', and actually you've no regard for the animals whatsoever, then you may as well start a hopeless and ridiculous campaign to attempt to take down everything and anything violent - news reports, movies etc. You should be more concerned for the animals, rather than just that poor you had your day ruined by realizing people aren't as nice as we'd all like.

Oh and if this is more out of concern for your child? If she's that young, she shouldn't be left with the internet without safety precautions in place anyway. If she is old enough to be left alone with it, then maybe you should think about taking a more mature stance and answering her questions since we all need to grow up eventually. I'm not suggesting encourage her to look at these things or to play it down or even play it up, but she's going to come across more questionable material as time quickly passes and you may as well face it head on whilst you can.

You actually let your daughter (how old is she?) search on youtube on her own? :s-smilie: There are all sorts of dodgy videos on youtube that kids can accidentally stumble across, that's no big shock or anything. There SHOULDN'T be, but there is.
My daughter (aged 6) has her own laptop that she goes on by herself, but I've never told her about youtube and she wouldn't even know to go on there. She goes on sites like ceebeebees and uptoten.com
