Thanks  Wrote my first essay on style/techniques today and am so glad I did because I would have had hardly anything to say :s
I think I'm alright with quotes, or at least remembering the gist of them :s if the examiner hasn't read it, they won't know exactly what the quotes are I suppose! how about you?

http://www.sudlangues.sn/IMG/pdf/doc-73.pdf found this pretty useful for the 'style d'écriture' revision

Thanks for the link, i'll definitely go through that pinching some bits and bobs.
i kind of tried to to revision cards for each topic with about 5 quotes.
I'm doing La Haine/La guerre d'Algerie...we also studied the May 68 riots but they're horrible lol. A-level French feels like GCSE History/English Literature combined...it's horrible lol. I'd be ****ing myself atm if I hadn't gotten 95% last year. The problem this year is I have so many other more important exams in the way...

However the UMS isn't bad at all and 80/100 for an A* doesn't seem too difficult really. Just need 8/10 in the translation and 36/45 in both essays!

Btw anyone have a "style of narration" essay? Or at least some ideas about what to write about, seems like the worst possible essay title and the only one left that hasn't been done lol.

I would make sure you lucidly argue both sides, and the best thing to do is PLAN. Planning because of the amount of time in this exam can really help not only to come up with ideas but to really develop them.

Also I tend to try and use specialist vocab which relates to the question here and there
Hope this helps

thanks! what do you mean by specialist vocab?

Hey everyone, I'm doing this exam on Friday too. We studied Entre Les Murs for the RBE and dreading that question as I'm pretty sure it's gonna be on techniques :/
Guys, i'm really bad at translation and verbs in general.
PLEASE give me a way to do well in the translation part :frown:

that's perfect...thanks again!...i'll certainly add it to my la morale de la piece essay!! if i manage to get an A i'll owe you for sure! you seem to have looked into the play a lot btw!! our analysis is a little less insightful so i hope its sufficient!!

Don't worry I'm a second year French student at Oxford who has just finished studying a special author paper on Molière so it would be worrying if I didn't know some critical quotes! I just commented here to help people with this exam which I know can be daunting!

What made you chose to do french at uni?

I met loads of great French people who spurred me on to continue improving my language skills. I also love literature and so I thought it would be great to have a literary degree (at Oxford the French course is very literature heavy) but with the added 'real world skill' of a foreign language,

I know I asked this already, but does ANYONE have an essay/tips for how to write an essay on social setting in La Haine? Do I want to talk about the fact half of it is Paris and half in the banlieue, or just more generally? Aaaah!

Does anyone have any quotes for the scene in the art gallery for la haine?

When Vinz, Hubert and Said get kicked out and make a huge fuss, the owner guy (the one who kicks them out) sighs and says something like "c'est les banlieues"
http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?p=43114101&highlight=la%20haine la haine thread...i included an essay i did on style and techniques

I was doing Voltaire this year before i finally realised how much i hated french literature and decided to go solo and do the social aspect one instead.

Is there anything in particular in france that interests you? I'm trying to learn more about the political landscape in france as here in the Uk it's pretty boring but over there the situation is very different. I guess that reflects how different both countries are.

Haha I've actually got a job interview to work at a publishing firm specialising in Voltaire's works - sounds like your nightmare

I'm not too well versed in the French political landscape, though I know the big topic right now is 'le mariage pour tous' - the bill has passed but many people are not happy and there have been loads of demonstrations etc.

There's also a rather worrying trend of increased voting for extreme right parties: a few ears back the Front National got a new, more 'family friendly' leader in the form of Marine Le Pen and the softened form of extreme right politics has been pretty popular for those disillusioned with the mainstream parties.

Oh and almost everyone seems to hate Hollande

Sure. I'll try to have a peek later this evening. It's a bit of a busy time at the moment (end of term - packing etc.) but I'm sure I'll find some time

Also, there are some exemplar essays on the Edexcel website with examiners' comments which you might find helpful.

I've had a brainwave! I know a technique question hasn't come up but I did wonder how that would apply to a book- I'm wondering if instead it'll be a question on setting? That hasn't come up on the new spec and is pretty vital to most pieces of literature/art. Thoughts?

Edit: hey alright no need to neg, never claimed to be a profit hehe! :P

I thought that too earlier! I definitely think it's a possibility
