OCR Chem help please

Jon tried to make some large , well shaped sodium chloride crystals from sodium carbonate using the following method

stage 1

jon adds excess dilute hcl to sodium carbonate powder
when the bubling stops he filters the mixture into an evaporating basin

stage 2

jon heats the mixture until all the water is driven off

jon is disapointed to find that he gets very few crystals and these are a small poor shape

identify two mistakes and explain what he should of done instead

help please

Alright the first mistake is that he put excess acid, it should have been excess sodium carbonate he should have put in. The second mistake is that he evaporated all of the water, instead he should have gently warmed it and then left it to dry in a basin and that would have left him with a lot of crystals.
