It's been a while since I've done OMAM, but heres something basic.

Steinbeck descriptively writes of Crooks' disability, "his body was bent over to the left by his crooked spine" allowing reader to further understand the extent of Crooks' inequality to the other ranch workers.

Crooks' disability is both visible and physical. Steinbeck writes, "in one hand he held a bottle liniment and with the other he rubbed it on his spin" to demonstrate how Crooks' injuries are both troublesome but controllable - like his fate.
