Try to take the first letters of the phyla, and then make a mnemonic out of them. Or even better, try using a flowchart that is v. simple, and then try memorizing it. Or try to find what each fancy word means. That way, when someone asks you what echinodermata is, you can reply on the basis of etymology.

As for the classes of phylum chordata, you just need to remember the major names, like amphibians, birds, reptiles, fishes etc, and then add the fancy latin names and try to match them in.
If I were you I would work the table of the phylum kingdom of animalia out to classify them. Then I would look at the classes and to connect them with each other. After that I begin to remember the order of the classes, started from the smallest to the highest one and vice versa.
