Sheeran is the whitest White man I have seen in my life, he would make sour cream look like Reggae Reggae sauce

It's obviously not serious. Straight white men don't need a festival to get noticed, they're acknowledged (for the right reasons) every day.

Why do they need a festival? When have they ever been persecuted against for factors they can't control? This screams immaturity.

To me, it screams 'joke'
Don't we have this already? Called the Cabinet isn't it?

Seriously, calm down straight, white, middle class men, fear not we still run the country and the major Establishment instutions within it.

Are you not aware that it is largely straight white males who rule over us and dictate the laws to which we live?

Doesn't matter. The politically correct power structure is hostile to straight white males.

The term 'straight white male' is a pejorative in this culture. I bet you can't find me even one example of where the term 'straight white and male' has been mentioned in the mainstream media and associated with anything positive.

The point i am making, as a straight white ( immigrant ) male, is that people are going to react to the negativity and demonisation. I certainly feel like i have to stick up for 'straight white males' after living in this society, which is pathologically politically correct and hostile to straight white males.
I don't see what is wrong with celebrating the fact you are a straight white man. It is great being a straight white guy.

No, of course not. However being straight has always been okay, no one has to spread a message that says "hey, it's okay to be straight". Pride is trying to get the message across to as many people as possible that no one should be ashamed of their sexuality.

But why is the festival not okay?

What's the problem with this? Homosexuals are allowed to be proud of their sexuality, blacks are allowed to be proud of their race, but when straight white guys do the same it's suddenly wrong?

It's not quite like that though, is it? Straight white guys have more or less owned the monopoly on every single nice thing in the world ever for the last several thousand years. When homosexuals and black people go to pride festivals, that "pride" is being filtered through the prism of "well, for the last few centuries we've been persecuted, vilified, subjugated, discriminated, prejudiced against and frowned upon- now that that's not happening, let's go out and celebrate".

That's my take on it. My best mate, who's gay, hates the whole pride thing anyway and would argue that there is no need to be "proud" about who he simply is.

I'm confused, why would a section of society being persecuted against mean that they should have a festival? I don't get it. So say gay people used to be treated awfully, why would they now have a festival for it?
Well, I do think there needs to be some more respect for heterosexual male sexuality. When you read feminist stuff or articles in The Guardian or The Independent male sexuality seems to be tarred as something dark, twisted, and malicious. Most of the time though, just like all sexuality, male sexuality is just a desire to have some hot sex. There's nothing wrong with watching porn or looking at sexy photos. We're just enjoying ourselves, and it kinda sucks that we're pressured to feel guilty for it.

Owned the monopoly on every single nice thing in the world for the past several thousand years?????

This is the most bizarre statement i have ever read.

You see now why straight white males need to organise and combat this absurd level of hate defamation.

Haha well that's how it's been. We've (I am a straight white guy) pretty much run the world for our benefit since civilisation began.

They aren't doing it to get noticed. They are doing it for fun.

So why don't we celebrate, look at this amazing world we have created?
It's not the festival itself people object to, but supporters of other segregated or chauvinist events who don't like the implicit accusation that their segregation or chauvinism is bad.

To obviously show that they're not ashamed to be who they are? That the so-called factor which separates them from the rest of the world isn't a negative one , an idea which has been existence for a long time. That's the whole point :s-smilie: Barring a few tumblr nerds, when have white, straight males ever truly been at a disadvantage? Show me a time in recent history when they were at the receiving end of oppression/discrimination. It's probably a joke, but the idea that some people believe straight white men deserve a festival as a result of subjection to nonexistent discrimination is laughable.

Hm. I'm not saying the world isn't amazing, but it's certainly got more amazing only since we've lost a bit of control and the minorities we've discriminated against indiscriminately since forever have been allowed to express themselves more; I'm talking in the last fifty years or so, if that.

I'm not saying we're living in an idyllic paradise of free expression, but things have got a lot better in the last few decades.

I suppose 10-18 million Europeans weren't enslaved during the Arab slave trade, then.
