What exactly is ATP? What does 'Starch and Glycogen are insoluble in water so do not affect the water potential of the cell' mean?

ATP is "adenosine triphosphate" - an adenosine base (like adenine in your DNA!) with 3 phosphate molecules attached to it in a chain, and when you break one of these bonds you get energy out!

Basically, water potential is an abstract concept. Water flows from areas of high water potential, to areas of low water potential - like osmosis. So adding insoluble components does not affect the osmotic gradient
