History of Art help

Hi

I'm interested in History of Art and am considering it to take as part of my degree (with French). On a lot of university websites, prospectuses etc... it states that you don't need to have studied history or have any prior knowledge of the whole course, but for anybody that has done/is doing history of art, do you need to already have a good foundation in areas of history of art. Would you for example, already need to know in a relatively strong depth, Renaissance art or say the links with religion and art in the medieval period?
Here at Warwick we like our students to have an interest in the subject, we don't expect people to have studied it already since it isn't yet taught in a wide range of schools. Our 1st year equips you to succeed in the subject.
