The Shining - Literary Value

I'm currently studying AQA A level English Lit B and I'm picking my options for the independent coursework pieces. Would you agree that The Shining by Stephen King has enough literary value and credibility to be the centre of one of my essays? I know it's a bestseller, but so is 50 shades so I'm a little skeptical! Any opinions would be appreciated :smile:

It definitely has enough value, but straight-up horror novels are sometimes a little too blatant for concise analysis. I personally love Stephen King and have read The Shining, so I know there is plenty in terms of psychology and human interactions, but the 'supernatural' element can sometimes get in the way.
