Are economics, history, geography and politics good a level choices for a finance or economics or law degree at a good uni? I understand maths may be required, however I got an A in gcse maths, will this help?

Without Maths AS or A level you'll have fewer options if you want to study economics. For finance and law those A levels are absolutely fine (and even for Econ you would be able to find universities happy to take you - it would just be a shorter list).
If in doubt go and look at some of the websites of universities you're considering and see if they specify any subjects.
