Is UCL overrated?

I’ve heard a lot of contrasting opinions about the reputation of UCL, but most people I talked to said that UCL is, somehow, overrated. If that is true, then how did they make it to the top 7 or 8 in the global ranking?

PS. I had my own experience in which getting an offer is so (confusingly) easy for such a ‘top’ uni. It seems that the competition for place is not harsh at all.

It can be quite course dependent. From my experience, it lived up to it's rating.
