Inorganic Chemistry question

What would be the colour of the solution when iodine is dissolved in a hydrocarbon solvent

A) Grey
B) Brown
C)Yellow
D) Purple

I was certain the answer was D, purple, but the mark scheme says brown? I thought it was brown for when its an aqueous solution but for an organic solvent it's purple/lilac?

Any help appreciated!
