I don't get how to do this, I get why i.j = j.k = k.i = 0 but I don't get how I use that to solve it

ab=(a1i+b1j+c1k)(a2i+b2j+c2k)\mathbf{a} \cdot \mathbf{b} = (a_1 \mathbf{i} + b_1 \mathbf{j} + c_1 \mathbf{k})(a_2 \mathbf{i} + b_2 \mathbf{j} + c_2 \mathbf{k})

Now expand the two brackets and use that fact.

Yeah just noticed... they meant:

a=a1i+a2j+a3k\mathbf{a} = a_1 \mathbf{i} + a_2 \mathbf{j} + a_3 \mathbf{k}

b=b1i+b2j+b3k\mathbf{b} = b_1 \mathbf{i} + b_2 \mathbf{j} + b_3 \mathbf{k}
