How do they mark gcse biology?

Hello, so I have been doing lots of practise papers on biology for the past few weeks but sometimes my answers were different to the mark scheme but I am pretty sure my answers were right. I also saw phrases like "An answer that combines the knowledge and understanding to provide a logical description"(this is just an example, and there are a lot of different phrases like this in the mark scheme). Does this means that my answer can be correct as long as I have answered the question like the phrase, or do I have to answer it exactly like it says on the mark scheme? Even though it is only an example? Hence, how can I mark the answer if the mark scheme is completely different to my answer? Thank you
