The oh- removes h+ so it will replace it by moving to the right therefore producing more salt and becoming more basic
Last question, where you had the structures of V and W, and you had to name them, what did people name W? I'd never seen something like that before! I think I guessed at something like dimethyl ethandioate :confused:

it was di methyl ethandioate but i missed out the first di grrr and for the ethanoic anhydride i said ethanoyl anhidride grrrr :s thats 2 marks wasted!

that was weird!!!!!!!! does anyone think grade boundaries will be slightly lowered? i know ive got the buffer question wrong, and i must have lost some marks on the isomers question, and on the regeneration of catalyst question. i'll be very happy with 70/90!

The buffer was hard, the catalyst one was just:

Alcl3 + R-ocl --------> Alcl4- + R-o+
C6H6 + Ro+ -------> C6H5-RO + H+
Alcl4- + H+ ------> Alcl3 + HCl
I've done really badly on this paper, actually worse than the first time round!! answered abotu 20 marks off the whole paper.. but at least it means i dont have to bother revising for the synoptic and module 5 next week!
