I don't understand the energetics behind Markovnikov's rule..... My teacher just explained simply that alkyl groups where electron donating but I don't understand how that works?

During electrophilic substitution for a hydrogen halide in an unsymmetrical alkene, the halogen from the hydrogen halide bonds to the the carbon from the C=C whose attached with least hydrogen atoms.

Hence, the H atom from the hydrogen halide bonds to the C atom from the C=C with more hydrogen atoms.
