I have honestly no idea, I like how much they focus on Forensic Psychology and I like that it’s a smaller uni too but idk if it’s too small. I’ve not had all my other offers back either but when I went to open days the unis I was most impressed by were Abertay, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. I’m also considering taking a gap year so I honestly don’t know what I’m gonna do

Yeah I get how tough it is and I’d imagine lots of people may want to defer for a year due to the whole worlds situation rn. I heard back from my last choice yesterday so I have until June to make a decision. Where else did you apply and what for?

Yeah that’s my thinking, I’ve been considering a gap year for ages but with everything that’s happening I’m leaning even more to that being the decision I make. I applied for Psychology at Aberdeen, Dundee, Strathclyde and Edinburgh aswell as Abertay, what did you apply for?

I applied to RGU (Social work), Napier for psychology and it got changed to Psychology and Sociology, QMU for Psychology that got changed to public sociology, Primary teaching (rejected) and Abertay for Psychology and Counselling.
Has anyone here lived at the Parker House accommodation?
Hi!
Just put in Abertay as my firm choice, planning to study Game Design and Production (hopefully if I get the grades).
I was studying (before the virus outbreak): Higher Computing, Higher English, Higher Chemistry and Higher Biology. Nice to meet you all .
Has anyone else viewed the computing virtual applicant day? If so, what did you make of it? I attended an online session for Dundee Uni's computing course and felt that the talk and the Q & A format from Dundee using Microsoft teams was better than just being sent videos to watch. Would have preferred if Abertay had followed a similar format.
I got the ethical hacking one and im with you on the fact it could have been formatted better. I don't know what you received but it would have been nice even just to have some sort of video lecture, that being said I firmed my offer anyway- I had had the opportunity to chat to some current and graduate students on Reddit and that's what swayed it for me
Hi, I have recieved an offer from Abertay for their Ethical Hacking course and my offer is for ABBB in Scottish highers. I am wondering if this course is competitive and if I am likely to be turned away if I don’t meet the requirements?

Thanks

Hi I'm on that course!

What do you mean by competitive? As in with other universities?

Also this is taken from the Ethical Hacking page:https://www.abertay.ac.uk/course-search/undergraduate/ethical-hacking/

"Don’t have the grades listed above?

We understand some people have faced extra challenges before applying to university, which is why we consider the background in which your academic grades have been achieved when making an offer.

We encourage you to submit an application if you expect to receive passes in three Scottish Highers (grades A-C) and have either:

Been in care.

Participated in an aspiration-raising programme such as LIFT OFF, LEAPS, FOCUS West, or Aspire North.

No family background of going to university.

Attended a school or lived in an area where not many people go to university"

The minimum grade it seems is ABB but they may consider your case like it says . I've heard/read Abertay has a high acceptance rate, I can't find where I read sry.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

By competitive I mean by the amount of people that have offers and the amount that are accepted into the course.

Thanks

Hey! Cool to see another ethical hacking student! The website above seems to put the offer rate at 85%, and I've definitely heard the same as Paddy with the acceptance rate being high. I did want to find some exact figures as I was curious (especially about intake, still am tbh, im curious how many first years there'll be on the course), but could only find a 6 year old student room post which I mean I can't say is the best source of information 😅

Hi, thanks for the reply. Really anxious to see if i get the grades I need as not sure what’s going to happen with grades due to COVID-19. Hopefully all is good and I get in. Do you have a conditional and if so what are the conditions?

Great to hear from you

Great to hear from you

I have got a conditional, but I'm an English student, and I'm not doing the typical ALevels that are done down here- I'm doing a BTEC instead, my conditional is Distinction, Merit, Merit. As my course is entirely coursework, I am fortunate in that I mostly know what grade I will get, even if it is calculated. I am sure that the university will be especially lenient this year considering the circumstances, I think everywhere will simply have to be. It's a bit of a shame that so much of our grades will likely fall upon our teachers favouritism and biases. But fingers crossed it all works out in your favour and you get in! Worst case scenario give the uni a ring on results day, but I'm sure it won't come to that!
I'm a 2nd year Biomed student and I lived at Lyon Street accomodation if anyone has any Qs x

Hi, what accommodation do you think is best x

Hi, what accommodation do you think is best x

I think it of course depends on your price budget. Lyon Street is furthest away, its like 10/15 mins but theres a lidl right next to it. I know folk at Keiller which is closer to Dundee uni. Meadowside is closest to the uni I know people who live their too And Parker house although most expensive probably the highest quality and its close to the uni. I can only really answer for Lyon. Lyon is probably not the best for socialising as most flats dont have a living room, its pretty small and its like 2 bedrooms ,bedsits are large and really gd tho. Theres private like old mill and the hub etc too. x

Lyon Street is furthest away I mean its not the prettiest place to live but it is a place to live! It's good for folk who maybe don't want lots of flatmates. I have friends who live at Parker its obviously more expensive cos of the higher quality like you've got the common room with a tv, en-suites. I think Parker is definetely usually home to lots of partys like afters n that but honestly depends on your flatmates to be fair.
