that link is super helpful thank you!!

my local MP is tied up in a few scandals (has never held a surgery and never replies to emails etc) so I've kind of ruled him out unfortunately.

my school does mandatory work experience, do you have any ideas where I could try applying for?

Your local council - any work experience in any area will show the reality/frustrations of local government. You can also go to local council meetings and sit in the public gallery - politics in action. Any organisation that 'helps people' - Citizens Advice, Homeless, Food Banks, Refugee Centres etc - will give you an idea of the reality of other peoples lives, and what happens 'when politics goes wrong' and how its possible for people to fall though the net.

More important for your Personal Statement is to show that you are moving beyond the A level syllabus - especially with evidence of more advanced reading and reflection on those ideas. Pick some stuff out of here (the documentaries are a good way to start) : https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/politics/undergraduate/courses/reading-list and listen/watch some academic lectures on any theme that interests you : https://www.gresham.ac.uk/watch/?subject=politics Takes notes, think about the main ideas, and do you agree with them? This will give you good material for 'I have become interested in ........ and have read more about..... whilst listening to a lecture about ... I realised that .....' etc etc.

Good luck!
