Will grammar 6th forms prefer someone with straight grade 9's and a few extra curriculars and a great reference or someone who has grades 7,8's and 9's but have some impressive extra curricular and an even better reference? I always thought grammar 6th forms would pick someone more academic but i'm not so sure anymore.... Thanks

Both would be fine. The ones I know just want a good set of grades, which 7,8,9s would be, and then a minimum grade (maybe a 7, sometimes a 6) in the A level subjects if they were taken at GCSE.
