Medicine?

I have time I guess...
I haven't started my A-Levels or even done my GCSEs yet, but I've had my heart set on medicine for pretty much my entire life, but now reality's hit. I don't know if I should take a subject so hard with less than 10% uni acceptance rate.
It's not really my grades that I'm worried about. My targets are all 9s or 8s, and I can trust myself to work hard to get them, but I'm not great at communication or empathy. Of course, I feel the emotions, and can understand what a person may be going through, but I can never fully vocalise it. I find it incredibly difficult to not freak out when one of my friends start crying, and communication appears to be a key feature the interviewees look out for in their applicants. I certainly don't believe that I can pass the interview at the rate I'm going.
Please could I have some advice on whether it's worth it to apply, because I do truly want to do it, or suggestions on how I can learn to communicate well.
