Official Chemistry 2023 Applicants Thread

Hi chemists!

I've seen some people on the 2022 thread talking about 2023 entry, so I thought I would make this thread!

We can start with some questions:
Where are you thinking of applying?
What A level/IB subjects are you doing?
What extra stuff have you done for your PS?

@CheeseIsVeg do you think you could pin this in the forum?

Hey!!

I am currently very undecided on where but my main contenders are
-St Andrews, Edinburgh
-Manchester
-Sheffield
-Liverpool
-Imperial/UCL as maybes atm

I do chemistry, physics & biology (I know I don’t do maths, it’s not because I didn’t want to either)
and for my PS I have no clue what I’m going to put on there atm

Those sound like good choices! Just so you know, Imperial and Edinburgh both want Maths A level as part of the entry requirements.

I applied for chemistry/medicinal chemistry at York Warwick Leeds Liverpool and lincoln

2 - Biology Chemistry Geography
3 - chemistry Olympiad, synthesised aspirin with uni of Sheffield, online computational chemistry masterclasses

I’ve applied for chemistry with medicinal chemistry (all mchem) at Bath, Birmingham, Newcastle, Exeter, Kent
Predicted A*AB in chem, bio, maths
I did a work shadowing day in the chem department at Southampton uni and a twilight session there
I have an offer from kent, just now the painful wait for the rest lol

I’ve applied for chemistry at Oxford (and will probably just pick something through clearing later if I don’t get in, I’m just indecisive and was only certain that I wanted to apply to Oxford, so I had to get the application out before the deadline)

Achieved the following:
A* (Edexcel A level Chemistry)
A* (Edexcel A level Mathematics)
A (OCR A level Physics, spec B)
Distinction (Edexcel AEA Mathematics)

Also completing the following (I’m on a gap year):
-Edexcel A level Further Maths
-Edexcel AS Biology, spec B
-AQA EPQ (dropped several months ago - forgot to update)

Other things I’ve done:
-Gold in 2021 UKMT SMC
-Gold in 2022 UK chemistry Olympiad round 1
-Participated in round 2 of the 2022 UK chemistry Olympiad (I didn’t get into the international round, sadly)
