Struggling to understand how they can use x and y to denote the gradient of the tangent rather than x1,y1Screenshot 2022-06-14 at 10.42.31.pngScreenshot 2022-06-14 at 10.42.55.png

Looks like its a typo (a line with x^2 and y^2?) but seems to get "corrected" when they replace the difference of squares with 16. Not fully checked though.

I see thanks, for the last line how does mx1-4ny1 =16?
It should be from your corrected equation of the tangent. As (m,n) lies on the tangent, simply replace x with m and y with n.

My bad I see now thanks
