Teacher Training 2023 Applicants Thread!!

Well I figured it was about someone started this one. Just over a week till applications open :eek3:

Time to panic/celebrate/generally get emotional as a collective.

So I'll kick things off with some basic info:

I'm Emma and I'm going to be applying to a few Primary (3-7) SCITT courses in Cornwall (not too many options down this way). I've got all my info ready, I'm literally just waiting for the application site to go live.

Best of luck. I just started my PGCE last month in secondary school and I am loving it.

Hi! I'll be applying to PGCE Primary with SEN specialism. I'm also applying to SCITTs as the uni led courses didn't look as good. 😊

Hi @strawberry fields

That's great that you're feeling ready and also excited about applications opening next week.

You may already have a Get Into Teaching adviser but if not, it is never too late for you or anyone else seeing this post to sign up for an adviser. We are a team of experienced teachers who will support you through the application process. For example, our advisers will offer feedback on your personal statement before you submit it and having another pair of eyes can be really helpful.

Here is the link to sign up for an adviser: https://adviser-getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/

There are several stages between applying and securing a place on Initial Teacher Training and we'd be delighted to help you along the way.

Good luck with your application!
Richard

I'd definitely recommend a SCITT over a uni led course any day

Yeah I already have an adviser and I second this advice to anyone who doesn't already have one. My adviser has already been so helpful and I haven't even applied yet!

It's mainly because I'm doing the SEN specialism. A lot of the uni led course don't guarantee a special school placement and I personally don't see the point in doing a SEN specialism if you don't get to spend time in a special school.

Haha I guess we won't have too much competition then!
I sent mine in this morning and already have an online interview in 10 days…. I am bricking it.

Good luck! What course did you apply for?
For those considering SCITT options, just take some time to consider whether there are any implications that may affect you. Some countries (Scotland for example) are more strict on teacher’s having an undergraduate or postgraduate teaching qualification. Also I would take some advise on whether having a PGCE/BEd is likely to affect progression in the short to medium term.

Either way, good luck!

Thank you, you too! I applied for Wolverhampton, Uni of Birmingham and a SCITT route. The SCITT is the one which I have been given an interview so far.

Wow, that's a quick turnaround! Did you get to negotiate a time/date for the interview?

I'm just worried that I've got a (not entirely flexible) full time job and if I'm not free on the date I'm given I'll miss out.

I didn't negotiate a date or time, as the time they gave me was okay, but I think if you email and give enough notice, they may be able to find a better time. I think it depends on their schedule and the headteacher's availability.

Are you applying for primary or secondary? And do you have a favourite course out of the 3? I went to an information evening last night for a SCITT and I think it's defo the one I'd choose if I got an offer from all 3.
