Can I do a full-time PhD just after FY2 and continue my ST after finishing my PhD? Would it affect my CV? Because I want to be a Surgeon and A Professor who would be teaching surgeries to the next generation, for that PhD and ST both I want to be done. Please let me know, thanks in advance
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.
The Medicine forum gets a high volume of questions being posted, and some of these are already answered by the resources and Megathreads that members of the community and volunteers have created. This is an automatic post which is designed to highlight these resources. Below is a list of threads and articles that could answer your question (you should be looking in the original post of the megathreads). If one of the below threads is a more relevant place to ask your question, please post a reply in that thread to ask your question. If your query is answered by one of the Megathreads or articles linked below, and you would like us to close this thread for you, please reply to this thread with just the words "thank you". A member of our team will then get it locked.

Yes, you could do that. You would probably get points for the PhD in CST and HST applications (although that obviously shouldn't be your motivation for doing a PhD).
However, I think it would be more common to do your PhD during your ST years (you would take 3 years out from your ST years to do the PhD).
Just to say, being a clinical academic surgeon doesn't really have anything to do with "teaching surgeries". NHS consultant surgeons will be involved in training SHOs and Registrars in theatre. Being a clinical academic is more about doing research/teaching in a university setting (although of course they will also, as with NHS consultants, be involved in training SHOs and Registrars in theatre).
