Number of significant figures to give answer in AQA A level chemistry

I’ve been losing so many marks and it’s in questions where they ask for the answer in an “appropriate” number of significant figures. For example, I would round up 63.5349 to 63.5 and the mark scheme says “Accept 64 ONLY”
How do you know the appropriate number of significant figures ?
The clue to the number of significant figures is generally in the question. If the data given is to 2sf then you can't round to 3sf accurately. If not some data has to certain resolutions such as pH value which are always to 2dp no matter the data given. If your unsure I'd always stick to 3sf as a lot of the time it is.
