I think it's better to make a good friendship with someone in the first hand. Through this stage, you'll know another person closely and you can ask him for a hangout with you and your friends after a certain period perhaps. Then when you start having a good bond between you guys, you can take the shot and say you really like him and things like this. It's a timely process. Rather than being in a hurry, it's more appropriate to give yourself and himself to realize whether you'll get along well or not. I don't know if this makes sense.
