IAL M2 Jan 2018 Q 4(b)

Hello, I would greatly appreciate any help on this question.
I am not sure how to even approach the question and what to think of it. I've had a look at the Mark scheme and the examiner's report and they haven't helped much.

Here's the link to the paper

If generally helps to post the ms/er youre talking about but assuming diretion of Q is positive (pre collision) and the velocity of P and Q post collision is v, w respectively you have
momentum 2v+w = u => w = u-2v
restitution |v-w| = 4ue => 3v-u = 4ue
Physically we must have v>w as w>v would imply the balls pass through each other
v = u(1+4e)/3
w = u(1-8e)/3
So for all values of e, v is postive.

Hey Thank you so much for this. It's taken me a while to understand this but I've finally understood it.
In the future I will be sure to include the MS and ER.
