Discrete Further Maths: Simplex Algorithm

hi (first post), i’m studying with openstudycollege online and after explaining the simplex method, it says “also, if you are given an inequality with the variables on the LHS and the sign you must multiply through by -1, remembering that this also means you need to change the direction of the sign”. i understand the last point but don’t understand the context of when i need to do this, i thought with you just need to subtract a surplus variable and add an artificial variable? am i over complicating this or misunderstanding this?

yeah i do discrete too (tho its in edexcel fm) and thats what im thinking too, havent seen any q where u times by -1. id say stick with subbing a surplus and adding an art.
