Who is the greatest post war uk PM

Welcome to the TSR best (post-war) PM tournament! This is Pool D

TSR is asking the question: Who is the best (post-war) UK Prime Minster? We're holding a tournament of UK Prime Ministers and asking you to vote to determine which was the most significant in history. We are currently in the group stages of this tournament, and this is Pool B. All the other groups are linked at the bottom of this post, and there's a hub thread here if you're interested in reading more.*

Theresa May

Was elected prime minister by the conservatives after David Cameron resgined after the brexit referendum. Before she served as the Home Secretary. May’s tenure was dominated by brexit and trying to grt a deal through parliament. Life was made harder by the 2017 election she called in which she lost her majority. She eventually resigned paving the way for Boris Johnson. She also had to deal with the poisoning of Sergei skripal on uk soil

Liz Truss

Liz truss became prime minister after Boris Johnson resgined after the Chris pincher scandal, amongst others, truss was like May elected by the Conservative Party. A few days into her tenure her majesty the queen passed away. Truss had a quick downfall after her mini budget scared the banks and markets. Liz truss is the shortest serving prime minister, she was sucsseded by rishi Sunak who she beat in the head to head

John major

John major is the 3rd Tory MP on this list and the 3rd to win a leadership election to grt into the post. Major succeeded Margaret Thatcher as PM. Major’s tenure was a tricky one as he was trying to deal with the European question and the Maastricht treaty vote in which he called 3 cabinet members *******s. Major unexpectedly won a majority in the 1992 election but was hammered in 1997 by Tony Blair who succeed him

Harold Wilson
IMG_1164.jpeg
Harold Wilson served as uk prime minister twice for the Labour Party
His first tenure started in 1964 when labour won a majority of 4 and he became the youngest PM and sucssed Alec Douglas Hume. In his first term Wilson passed reforms such as limited decriminalisation of homosexuality and ending capital punishment. He nonetheless lost the 1970 election to edwarty heath. Wilson would be back in 1974 and in this tenure avoided involvement in the Vietnam war and the referendum to join the EEA, later the EU. he was sucsseded by James callanhgan
I wouldn't say this was an especially strong pool, with some PMs who were largely seen as hapless at the time (though Major and increasingly May are probably being quite well rehabilitated in retrospect). Wilson is the strongest candidate here, even if probably not quite as much of a titan as he often seems to be seen as these days.
Harold Wilson, for abolishing capital punishment (other than for treason, apparently), and making a start towards decriminalisation of homosexuality, as well as a lot of other things I'd consider steps in the right direction.

I also interviewed him on his opinions of the 2016 Brexit referendum once, in a dream.

The results are in:

:king1: Harold Wilson
:king2: Theresa May
:king3: John Major and Liz Truss

This means that Harold Wilson and Theresa May will go to the next round and other prime ministers have been eliminated.
