A Christmas Carol

Does anybody know any context of society in the Victorian era?

The society in the Victorian era was divided into two main classes: the rich and the poor. The rich enjoyed a comfortable and luxurious life, while the poor lived in overcrowded and unsanitary conditions, often working long hours in factories, mines, or as domestic servants. The gap between the rich and the poor widened during the Industrial Revolution, which brought rapid economic and social changes.

Poverty was a huge problem, the result of industrialisation and increasing population

Children worked long hours in dangerous jobs from an early age

The only provision for those who could not wor was the workhouse

Proposed solutions to the problem of the poor ranged from letting them die to revolution

Many charities were founded to help the poor
