Not Encouraged to Do Distinction Work

Question for Any Level 3 BTEC Students, Have you guys found yourself being told to attempt up to a merit or a pass and not distinction for written assignments. The only reason I'm doing good on the course is high results from the 120 credits external exams. The rest is usually just a pass.

If someone is teling you not to achieve high or try and be the best you can be. Dont listen go with your gut I was told the same thing and left with three D*. I've just finished my first year at uni for comp sci.

Also the distinctions dont even take much if I remember for the assingments its just about justifiyng and backing up choice that you made. That takes about what? 30 mins to an hour.
