i did mine in january and I got my seventh choice, it's a completely unbiased, random system. they pick out 100 randomised applicants and then allocate them their college, do the same throughout the cohort, taking into consideration their preference form and also proportion of students doing the same course etc. there is, from what I can see, no benefit to being early. one thing you should never do though is choose durham for a specific college, cos even your preliminary allocation can change on results day.
