Is it worth getting help for mental health?

Does seeing someone about your mental health actually help? I don’t have anything major like grief/trauma or a mental disorder, I’m just generally lonely/miserable. But it’s getting to the point where it’s affecting my grades (I’m at uni) and motivation. But would it even be worth talking to someone or would they just repeat the kind of advice you can find online? I don’t really have anyone else to talk to, I don’t have any friends and I love my family but they aren't very helpful with stuff like that and give me advice that just usually makes me feel worse.

In my experience, both as a therapist and a client, I have found counselling and therapy can be extremely helpful. Sometimes, just having a space to talk about what's going on without judgement can be very therapeutic and help you explore your problems and make sense of things.

You could speak to your GP and ask for a referral for counselling, or see what charities or other services are available in your local area you could access.
