Switching engineering course at Bristol

Question to any current Bristol engineers on the forum:

I have an aero offer. Since the syllabus for 1st year is the same for aero, engineering design and engineering maths, if I want to switch in 2nd year can I? Is it common?

From what I can see the syllabuses are not the same for these three programmes -- there is some commonality between them in the first year, but they're not identical.

See:
Programme structure: Aerospace Engineering (BEng) for 2024/25 entry cohort
Programme structure: Engineering Design (BEng) for 2024/25 entry cohort
Programme structure: Engineering Mathematics (BEng) for 2024/25 entry cohort

I certainly wouldn't make the assumption that you can switch in the second year -- that's something you'd need to ask Bristol about.

IMG_1167.jpegYou are correct in saying they are not exactly the same, there seems to be an additional aerospace module

Will it look bad if I email them now asking about this?

I asked a Professor when I went to my offer holder day and he said that it depends on 1) if there is any space on the course you want to switch to 2) you prove that you're academically capable enough to do well and learn anything you missed. He said it should be possible from aero to another course as aero is usually oversubscribed so its harder to get on the aero course than off it.
