im not really a fan of big cities (like london and nottingham) so i would really like to go to university in a town or in the countryside somewhere. does anyone know of any good universities like this? (preferrably in the uk).

I went to Warwick for a rugby game, and if any uni is in the countryside then it is

Durham.. small beautiful city ... about the size of a small town infact lol
Leeds, 20 min £3 train journey to Ilkley moor which is on the edge of the dales.
Leicester is a nice mix if you didnt want somewhere that was total isolation. Obviously its a city, but its not a big busy city like london or anything, and the student village is in a really nice, quiet leafy part of the city.

Its the kind of place where theres plenty going on if thats what youre after, but if not you wont be overwhelmed as you may be in a big city. The student village is located outside of the city centre and is in a quiet residential type area, with lots of trees and greenery. Its like being a million miles away from the city sometimes, and yet its still only a short bus ride from where everythings happening.
Sussex, the only university in the country situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty. (which is soon to be a national park.)
York ?

Keele ?

Eligible husband club?
Sussex, Exeter (and the Exeter Cornwall campus), Warwick...

It used to be more rural that it is, it's right on the edge of Coventry now, which is huge metropolitan area. Where I live is more rural (and you can get a lot more rural than where I live! :p: )

There was a similar thread a few months back.

There are few universities in "the countryside" there are city and campus universities in/around small, historic cities (Durham, York, Exeter, St Andrews, Kent-Canterbury, Bath) There are campus bases universities, outside small cities or market towns (Lancaster, Loughborough). There are universities in major cities but are close to great countryside, often just outside the city (Newcastle, Sheffield, Manchester, Aberdeen).

But for universities in the actual countryside then you really haven't got many options. The Royal Agricultural College, just outside Cirencester (but that's obviously specialist). The University of Cumbria (at Ambleside) and Exeter's Cornwall campus. Those the ones that stick out in my mind.

I can't find the old thread as the search still isn't working.

University of Exeter's Cornwall Campus - its in Falmouth so right near the beach, in the middle of the countryside with loadsss to do, surfing etc. and loads of lovely walks, great views from campus and its generally warmer than the rest of the country aswell. And theres still a really good social aspect aswell so it doesnt feel ridiculously isolated

what subject are you looking to do though? It has History, Law, English, Politics, international relations & alot of science subjects (though looking at your Alevels they won't be relevant to you im guessing!)

Keele, deffo out in the countryside, nice campus too, only one bus to the nearest town (if you want to go out for the night)

Lancaster is rural as well, though the actual university is fairly built up

Edge Hill (I think) is out on the rural Merseyside/Lancashire border

Loughborough is also in the countryside, but also on the outskirts of a small-ish town
