Pharmacy Personal Statement==

Science and Mathematics are two subjects that I am greatly fascinated by because of their vast influence on our everyday lives. My interest in Science came about during my GCSE’s where the analytical side of chemistry always drew my attention and I feel Mathematics; with its problem solving, has been an interest of mine from a very young age. As a career path, I recognised Pharmacy combines my interests Chemistry and Maths and I feel it is one of many growing professions in a very modern and fast-developing society.

A recent work experience placement at a local pharmacy helped me greatly in understanding that pharmacists have a much more active role to play in the community and gave me an insight into the amount of work that goes into running the pharmacy behind the scenes, much of which I admire still to this day. It showed me that pharmacies act as a bridge between those who develop the medicines and antidotes and those people in our local community who are in need of them as it makes these medicines easily accessible through your local pharmacy. What good is a cure if you can’t have access to it?

After working in a pharmacy, I thought it would be beneficial to volunteer at cancer research for a year, as it would also enhance my communicative skills. This role helped me to gain other key skills, including interacting with customers, providing customers with help, working in the stock room to ensure stock levels were replenished, merchandising and displaying saleable items on clothes rails, shelves and in the shop windows in an attractive way so as to maximise sales. My conduct around the shop towards customers and staff enabled my employer to rely and trust me in satisfying customers and to promote the charitable nature of the job.

With my studies aside, I have a real passion for sports including football, swimming and tennis. However, apart from the physical activities which I greatly enjoy I also like reading novels, listening to music and socialising with my friends in my spare time. My current hobbies also include snooker, table tennis and gym however something I would really like to do is landscape photography which has become a recent interest of mine from travelling over the past few years.

University would be a big leap in my life, not only as a great new experience but also to further my learning as the next step in my education and also to meet new people. I am a responsible, self-motivated and determined person who will relish at the prospect of studying pharmacy should the opportunity be presented to me.
