Do the Welsh hate the English?

I don't hate someone based on their nationality. That's deeply retarded.

You should be fine in most of South Wales, careful if you're going to the valleys though. They tend to be very nationalistic.

I'm welsh and I hate the welsh. I actually prefer english, with all my college tutors being english as well as 1/3 of my class, plus the ammount of negative welsh stereotypes disgust me =/ only the idiots 'from the valleys' seem to get on telly.

How very bizarre. The etc being Bangor and St David's (neither of which are in the South). I'm a little perplexed, to be honest, where you get this idea from. Most valleys folk are only likely to be "nationalistic" if said English venturer into the valleys is much richer than they are. In that context, it's class conflict disguised as nationalism that's at stake. I guess, though, we all have our particular views.

Obv I know everyone who lives up in the valleys aren't idiots. But the majority in mainstream media on TV are just utter idiots, with borderline indian accents and an IQ of 3.

Class ... that's what it's about. Valleys folk are considered the quintessential 'working class' and because the media is driven by the middle class with its latent fear of working class people, it helps to portray the workers as stupid, aggressive, and not going anywhere. Whereas, if you look carefully at some of the foundations programmes such as Belonging or P-y-C there's clearly more of a culture there than is obvious in mainstream media.

But, it depends on how people flaunt it. You drive up through a poor valleys community in your brand new Merc and start flashing the cash of course you're going to get grief ... but that's the same as anywhere. 99% of the time, though, ordinary people - which is what valleys folk are - will treat others with respect.

You'd certainly struggle to find the nationalism you initially portrayed as endemic in most of the valleys villages I know.

I'm Welsh, I speak the language fluently but I have an English accent so don't worry about it. But I think South Wales is filled with welsh people that can't speak the language but they have the stereotyped accent.
And no I don't hate the English, but i get pissed off when I get stereotyped for being Welsh and when people refuse to say my name properly even though they can.

I was very surprised when an acquaintance of mine told me that the Welsh hated the English. Never ever thought such a thing is possible. She also told me that if I even say that I am in the UK instead of Wales (note UK not England) I might be beaten up. :/

Of course not. As with every place though, there are a small minority of idiots.

What irritates me though is that there's a weird undercurrent of Celtic nationalism that is deemed relatively acceptable by mainstream opinion. The presumption, and it's been mentioned in this thread, that somehow English people feel themselves somehow superior. Of course, this is always an accusation levelled at no-one in particular, because it is false.
